Week 1
Introduction — You'll Get Through This
Read the Introduction of You'll Get Through This by Max Lucado. Primary Scripture: Genesis 50:20; Romans 8:28.
1.Lucado opens by acknowledging that life sometimes throws us into deep pits — seasons of pain, loss, or despair that feel inescapable. What pit, large or small, are you personally carrying into this study? You don't have to share details, but try to name it honestly to yourself.
2.The book's central promise comes from Genesis 50:20: 'You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good.' Why do you think Lucado chose Joseph's story, of all the Bible's stories, to carry this message? What is it about Joseph's particular suffering that makes him such a compelling guide?
3.Lucado writes with the conviction that God doesn't promise that getting through trials will be quick or painless, but he does promise to use our mess for good. How does that distinction — between a promise of ease and a promise of redemption — sit with you? Does it feel like enough?
