Before diving into the chapters, take time to sit with the book's opening provocation: most people don't expect you to understand, care, or follow through — and Alex and Brett are betting that you will.
Discussion Questions
7 questions1.The book opens with a direct challenge: "Most people don't expect you to understand... And even if you do something about it, they don't expect it to last." How did those words land on you when you first read them? Did they feel motivating, accusatory, or something else entirely?
2.Alex and Brett coined the term "Rebelution" — a combination of "rebellion" and "revolution." In your own words, what are they rebelling against, and what are they revolting toward?
3.The twins wrote this book as teenagers themselves. Does that fact change how you receive their message? Why or why not?
4.Paul's instruction to Timothy — "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young" (1 Timothy 4:12) — is a thread running through the book. What does Paul say Timothy should do instead of accepting low expectations? How does that connect to the Rebelution's core idea?
5.Think about the environment you live in — school, home, church, social media. What expectations (high or low) does that environment place on you as a young person? Be honest and specific.
6.Alex and Brett frame this as a movement "for the glory of God," not simply for personal achievement. Why does that distinction matter? What changes about the motivation to do hard things when God's glory is the goal rather than your own reputation?
7.What is one thing you are hoping this book — and this study — will change in how you think or act? Write it down now so you can return to it in the final week.
Closing Prayer
Lord, I come to the beginning of this study aware that I have often accepted the low expectations placed on me — or placed even lower ones on myself. Like Jeremiah, I have sometimes said, "I am only a youth." Forgive me for using my age or inexperience as an excuse to stay comfortable. Thank You that You are a God who calls young people into Your purposes and equips them to follow through. As I read these pages, give me eyes to see what You see in me and in my generation, and give me the courage to rebel against anything that keeps me from living fully for Your glory. Amen.
