Perhaps nothing causes Christians more anxiety than the question "What is God's will for my life?" — and Chambers's answer may be both simpler and more demanding than you expect.
Discussion Questions
8 questions1.Chambers argues that the question "What is God's will for my life?" is often asked from the wrong starting point — as if God has a detailed blueprint we must decode. He insists the will of God is primarily about *character*, not *career*. How does this reframe the anxious decision-making many Christians experience?
2.He teaches that as we grow in intimacy with God, our *desires* are gradually transformed so that we want what God wants — which is why Psalm 37:4 says "delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart." Do you find your desires becoming more aligned with God's over time? Where does the misalignment still show up?
3.Chambers warns against two opposite errors in seeking God's will: (1) paralysis — waiting for a dramatic sign before taking any step, and (2) presumption — calling our own preferences the will of God. Have you fallen into either of these? What happened?
a.Is there a decision you are currently facing where you are tempted toward paralysis or presumption?
b.What would a posture of prayerful, faithful action look like in that situation?
