Discussion Questions
7 questions1.Micah 7:18 asks, 'Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity... He does not retain his anger forever, because he delights in steadfast love.' Piper dwells on the word 'delights.' What does it change about how you receive forgiveness when you believe that God not only grants it but *enjoys* granting it?
2.Ephesians 1:5–6 says God predestined us for adoption 'according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace.' Piper argues that grace is not merely a solution to the problem of sin—it is something God *delights* to display. How does that reframe the gospel for you? Does it make God feel more or less approachable?
3.The parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15) shows the father *running* toward his returning son. Piper uses this image to argue that God's grace is not reluctant or begrudging but eager. When you come to God after failing, do you picture a reluctant God or a running Father? What has shaped that picture for you?
a.What would need to change in your heart to genuinely believe the running-father image is accurate?
b.How might that shift in belief change your approach to confession and repentance?
