Keller now turns to the outward dimension of gospel-transformed work — how the quality, integrity, and manner of a Christian's work can itself be a form of witness in the workplace.

Discussion Questions

7 questions

1.Keller argues that Christians' work itself can be a form of witness — not through overt preaching in the office, but through the visible qualities of their labor: excellence, honesty, generosity, care for colleagues. How does this shape your understanding of what 'ministry in the workplace' actually looks like?

2.The chapter draws on Jesus' call to be 'the light of the world' and 'a city on a hill' (Matthew 5). Keller argues that this light shines partly through visible, excellent work done with integrity. In your workplace, would your colleagues say that your work has any distinctive quality that makes them curious about what motivates you?

3.Keller is careful to argue that workplace witness is not primarily about talking about your faith, but about the character of your work and relationships. At the same time, he maintains that verbal witness — actually explaining the gospel — remains essential. How do you hold those two together in your own context?

a.Have you ever been in a situation where someone was curious about why you worked differently, and you had the opportunity to explain? What happened?

b.Have you ever used 'witness through work' as an excuse to avoid the harder task of actual verbal witness?
