8 questions1.Which single episode, character, or image from The Pilgrim's Progress has stayed with you most powerfully throughout this study? What made it so arresting? Can you articulate what it revealed to you about God, about yourself, or about the nature of the Christian life?
2.Bunyan peoples the road with characters who represent conditions of the heart: Pliable, Obstinate, Mr. Worldly Wiseman, Talkative, By-ends, Faithful, Hopeful, Ignorance. Which character do you most recognize in yourself — not as you wish you were, but as you honestly are? Has your answer to that question changed during the course of the study?
3.The burden falls at the cross, and not before. The Slough of Despond, the Interpreter's house, the wicket gate — all of these are passed without relief. Then, at the sight of the cross and the sepulchre, the burden "began to tumble" and was seen no more. How has this study deepened or challenged your understanding of justification by faith alone — of what it means to have your burden removed by Christ rather than by moral effort, religious performance, or spiritual experience?
