With the false beliefs clearly named, we now turn to the constructive work of building a new identity — one that is rooted not in circumstances or others' opinions, but in who we are in Christ.

Discussion Questions

7 questions

1.McGee uses the image of a tree — that the health of a tree depends on the health of its root system, not just the quality of its fruit. How does this image capture the difference between trying to change behavior (pruning the branches) versus addressing the root beliefs? Where have your past efforts at self-improvement mostly focused?

2.Colossians 2:9-10 says that in Christ "all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness." What does it mean to be "complete" or "brought to fullness" in Christ? What does that completeness do to the restless search for significance through achievement or relationships?

3.McGee emphasizes that our identity in Christ is not something we are working toward but something we already possess. The challenge is learning to live from that reality rather than for it. What is the difference between "I am trying to become significant" and "I am significant — now I live accordingly"? How does that shift feel to you?
