Week 9: Chapter 8 — God Speaks Through Circumstances and Others

1.Acts 16 records the Holy Spirit preventing Paul from entering certain regions, redirecting him through what might have looked like a series of frustrating closed doors — until the Macedonian vision clarified God's purpose. Can you think of a time when a closed door or blocked path was actually God's redirecting voice? What made you able (or unable) to recognize it at the time?

2.Shirer issues an important caution: open doors are not automatically God's will, and closed doors are not always God's "no." Why is it dangerous to use circumstances alone as your primary guide for decision-making? What must always accompany the reading of circumstances?

3.Proverbs 11:14 says, "Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety." Shirer champions the role of wise, spiritually mature advisors in the discernment process. Who are your "abundance of counselors" — the people you actually consult when facing significant decisions?
