Before diving into the content, take a moment to consider what discipleship has actually looked like in your own life — and whether it has looked anything like what Jesus described.

Discussion Questions

7 questions

1.Chan opens with a striking admission: most Christians today would not know how to make a disciple if someone asked them. Does that description resonate with your experience? Why or why not?

2.Jesus's command in Matthew 28 is to 'go and make disciples' — not merely converts, attenders, or church members. What is the difference between a convert and a disciple, in your own words?

3.Chan argues that discipleship is not a program the church offers but the normal, expected life of every follower of Jesus. How does that challenge the way your church or community currently operates?

4.Think about the people who have most shaped your faith. Were they making disciples of you intentionally, or did it happen in a less formal way? What made their influence effective?

5.The title Multiply points to the idea that disciples reproduce — one becomes two, two become four. Where do you see this multiplication principle in Jesus's own ministry strategy?

6.Chan writes that this book is not meant to sit on a shelf but to be passed on to someone else. Who is one person in your life right now whom you could imagine walking through this material with?

a.What makes you hesitant to approach that person?

b.What would it take for you to take a first step this week?

7.How does the promise Jesus makes in Matthew 4:19 — 'I will make you fishers of men' — reframe disciple-making from a burdensome obligation to something God himself equips us for?

Closing Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank you for the simple and staggering command to go and make disciples. Forgive us for treating that command as optional, or as someone else's job. We confess that we have often been content to receive discipleship without ever giving it away. Would you multiply your life through ours? Give us eyes to see the people around us as potential disciples, and give us the courage to begin. We trust that you will equip what you have commanded. Amen.
