Discussion Questions
6 questions1.Maxwell uses the Pareto Principle (the 80/20 rule) as a framework in this chapter — the idea that roughly 20 percent of your activities produce 80 percent of your results. How honestly have you applied the Pareto Principle to your own calendar and energy? What activities are in your 20 percent?
2.Maxwell's three-part prioritization tool: (1) Is it required? (2) Does it give the greatest return? (3) Does it bring the greatest reward? Walk through your current top five responsibilities using these three questions. Which items pass all three tests, and which items are consuming your time but fail at least one?
3.Maxwell makes an important distinction: activity does not equal accomplishment. Can you think of a week in your recent past where you were extremely busy but, at the end of it, had accomplished very little of actual leadership consequence? What were you doing instead?
a.Why do leaders often drift toward activity over accomplishment?
b.What systems or habits help you resist that drift?
