Before diving into the chapters, take a moment to consider what drew you to this book — and what you are hoping God will do in your thinking.

Discussion Questions

7 questions

1.Meyer opens by sharing that she spent many years as a Christian but lived in mental and emotional torment because she didn't understand the battle taking place in her mind. Can you relate to that gap — loving God but still being controlled by negative or destructive thought patterns? Describe what that has looked like in your own experience.

2.The book's central verse is Romans 12:2 — 'Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.' In your own words, what do you think it means to 'renew' your mind? Is this something you have ever actively pursued, or has it been more passive for you?

3.Meyer argues that Satan's primary strategy is not to attack our circumstances first but to attack our thinking. Why do you think the mind is such an effective battlefield for the enemy? What makes our thoughts so vulnerable?

4.Second Corinthians 10:5 calls believers to 'take every thought captive to obey Christ.' What does it look like practically to 'take a thought captive'? Have you ever done this successfully? What made it work (or not work)?

a.What kinds of thoughts do you find hardest to capture and bring under Christ's authority?

b.What specific tool or habit might help you become more aware of your thoughts throughout the day?

5.Meyer describes her own background — years of abuse and the deeply ingrained thought patterns that resulted. How does understanding her personal story shape the way you receive her teaching? Does it increase your trust in her message? Why or why not?

6.What is one specific thought pattern — a recurring worry, fear, negative assumption, or lie — that you are hoping God addresses in you through this study? Write it down as honestly as you can.

7.How does the truth that transformation comes through renewing the mind connect to the broader gospel story — to what Christ has already accomplished for us and what the Holy Spirit is doing in us now?

Closing Prayer

Lord, I come to the beginning of this study aware that my mind is contested ground. You know the thoughts that have tormented me, the patterns I've returned to again and again, and the ways the enemy has used my own thinking against me. I confess that I have not always fought back — sometimes I have welcomed those thoughts, rehearsed them, let them shape my emotions and my choices. Forgive me. I believe Your Word that I can be transformed by the renewing of my mind, and I ask You to make that renewal real in me over these coming weeks. Give me the courage to be honest about what is happening in my thinking, and the faith to believe that Your truth is more powerful than any lie I have believed. I surrender my mind to You. Amen.
