Meyer continues her examination of the wilderness mentalities, pressing deeper into the thought patterns rooted in negativity, self-focus, and resistance to God's process.

Discussion Questions

7 questions

1.Meyer identifies 'I can never do anything right' as a pervasive wilderness mentality — a general negative orientation toward oneself. She notes this thought pattern can feel humble but is actually a form of unbelief (disbelieving what God says about us). Have you ever mistaken a negative self-image for genuine humility? How do you tell the difference?

2.She addresses the mentality 'I'm not okay and you're not okay' — a generally negative view of life and people. What is the root of persistent negativity? Is it personality, circumstances, spiritual attack, or sin — or some combination?

3.Proverbs 23:7 says, 'As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.' Meyer returns to this verse repeatedly. Do you believe that your thoughts are literally shaping the person you are becoming? Give a specific example from your own life where this has been true — either positively or negatively.

a.What kind of person are your current dominant thoughts forming you into?

b.What kind of person do you want to become, and what thoughts are consistent with that?
