2.Nehemiah 1 gives us a powerful model of communal lament: upon hearing of Jerusalem's ruins, Nehemiah "sat down and wept and mourned for days" and then prayed a lament that included confession, appeal, and intercession. How does Nehemiah's response challenge the tendency to respond to bad news with immediate problem-solving or outrage?
3.Vroegop makes a distinction between grieving "as a community" (people who happen to be grieving at the same time) and "communal lament" (the intentional, corporate act of bringing shared pain before God together).
