7 questions1.Vroegop argues that lament and God's sovereignty are not in tension — they depend on each other. You can only lament to a God who is in control. How does this reframe the practice of lament for you? How does sovereignty make honest prayer more possible, not less?
2.Lamentations 3:37–38 states that nothing happens apart from God's decree — "Is it not from the mouth of the Most High that good and bad come?" This is a hard verse. How do you hold together God's sovereignty over suffering and God's goodness? Where do you feel that tension most acutely in your own life?
3.Vroegop describes "sovereign mercy" as the conviction that God is neither uninvolved nor unloving — he governs all things and he is merciful in all things, even when we cannot see how. Has this conviction ever sustained you in a season when you could not feel or see God's mercy? What kept you holding on?
