Week 8: Chapter 7 — Discovering Your Child's Primary Love Language

1.Chapman and Campbell offer several practical clues for identifying a child's primary love language: observe what the child requests most often, notice what they complain about lacking, watch how they express love to others, and listen to what they say they need. Of these four observation strategies, which seems most useful to you? Have you already noticed any of these patterns in a child you know?

2.The authors note that young children (under five) are generally too young to have a clearly identifiable primary love language — all five languages matter equally in the early years. How does this affect your approach to parenting very young children? And at what age did you first start noticing a preference emerging in a child you know?

3.The chapter suggests that experimenting — intentionally speaking each of the five love languages in concentrated doses for a period of time and watching the child's response — is one of the best ways to identify the primary language. Have you tried this, even informally? What did you observe?
